The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby
English will be the official language of the European Union rather
than German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that
English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a
5-year phase-in plan that would become known as ‘Euro-English’.
In the first year, ’s’ will replace the soft ‘c’. Sertainly, this
will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard ‘c’ will be
dropped in favour of ‘k’. This should klear up konfusion, and
keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik
enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome ‘ph’ will be
replaced with ‘f’. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.
In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be
expekted to reach the stage where! more komplikated changes are
possible.
Governments will enkourage the r! emoval of double letters which have
always ben a deterent to akurate s peling.
Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent ‘e’ in the
languag is disgrasful and it should go away.
By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing ‘th’
with ‘z’ and ‘w’ with ‘v’.

Yesterday, I walked past the Macdonalds at Bugis Junction while waiting for my sis and guess what I saw?

A RGS girl surfing nextshow.sg on her laptop!

One of the greatest feeling that I can ever have as a web developer, is to see people I’ve never met before using the websites I create.

nextshow.sg is really growing fast. If you search for movie timings on Yahoo! Singapore, you will see nextshow.sg listed just below Yahoo! Movies. Thats a number 3 spot!

I think nextshow.sg just owned the other movie portals in Singapore, and its only 6 days old?

Today is Thursday, many new shows are released on this day. I expect a spike in visitors.

Recently, my sister decided to start a small online business selling trendy clothes. Like what many teens are doing nowadays, she started a blogshop. So my sister started looking around for suppliers and finally found someone willing to supply at extremely low rates.

She started accepting orders from her blogshop and got enough orders to meet the minimum number of  orders required by her supplier. So she emailed her supplier to place an order. I shall name the supplier “D” in this post. Most terms were discussed verbally with D. D said that the order will be fulfilled by 3 days after payment.

Total payment of $608 was made to D last Saturday in cash. My sister was excited about it and told me when she got home. Than I asked her if D issued a receipt to her, she said no. Than I started to worry because there was no way to prove that payment was made without a receipt.

After that, my suspicions for D grew. She told my sis that she had to pay extra because of some “special colours” in the order, which were not mentioned earlier. She could had said it when payment was made, but she didn’t.

She said that my sis had to pay $2 for each special colour in the order. After calculating, my sis calculated that she had to pay an additional $28. But D called and said that my sis had to pay an additional $80. My sis was shocked and asked D to explain how she came up with such a huge amount. D could not come up with a valid explanation and just told my sis to go down to NUH to make the payment,  she was hospitalised. (I dont know why)

This was what she typed in her SMS:

Feeling concerned, I accompanied my sis to NUH to meet her. I asked D how she came out with that amount ($80).  She did the calculations in front of us and the final amount she got was $33. She said that sizes 27 and above requires an extra charge of $1 to $5. What was initially agreed on was that there would be an additional $2 charge for sizes above 30

She claimed that the previous amount ($80) was calculated by her friend, no apologies were made for that mistake. So we paid her the additional amount for the order. After that I told D to sign a written note to prove that payment had been made to her since she does not issue receipts. She signed it.

I asked her when the stock would arrive. She hesitated abit and said that the NFSkinnies would be ready on Wednesday and the rest would be ready latest by end of the week. This was contrary to what she said earlier, that the stock would be ready in 3 days upon payment.

My sister than explained to her customers about the delays. Some of them were unhappy about it and wanted a refund. It took us quite some time to appease them. I called D to ask her what time I can collect the stock on Wednesday, she said that she can’t confirm that the stock will be ready on Wednesday, and that she will call her supplier to contact me when it is.

She also said :

I had a very bad feeling when she said that because she initially told us that the NFSkinnes would be ready on Wednesday (not earliest by, note the difference). Our customers were extremely unhappy about the delay too.

On Tuesday, I told her that our customers are unable to wait that long and asked her for a refund. She said that asking for a refund would get our blogshop blacklisted and marked as a scam. It doesn’t make sense to me at all but I told her that it doesn’t matter because I only want to get the money back to refund our customers.

She said that she could only refund me after she gets discharged from hospital. For some reason, she got agitated and started insulting me with vulgarities. Than she said that she could only return the money earliest by the 20th of June.

Afraid that she might not return the money, I asked my buddy Sam, who is a police officer, for advice. Sam decided to use his position as a police officer to call her to ask if she has the intention to return the money to us. She kept using the same “earliest by” excuse as a delaying tactic, so Sam pressed her for a definite date. After some time, she said that she will return the money by the 30th of June.

I have no idea why it will take so long for her to return the money. If she does not return the money by the 30th of June, I would assume that she is trying to cheat and lodge a police report.

7 months of hard work and I’m finally done. *pinch self*  OMFG. I’m not dreaming.

Today is an auspicious day to launch my site. No la, I didnt specially choose this date. I just happen to finish uploading the site today. I’m starting to love the number 6

Its 4:35am and I’m having a terrible headache. I havent done a through production check. This website had been tested on Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2 and 3, Opera and of couse my personal favourite Apple Safari. If you spot any bug or anything that looks funny, just give me a call or sms.

This site is on full auto mode, it automatically searches the internet for movie information, cinema showtimes and the coolest thing is that it also searches Youtube for movie trailers. Which means that I do not have to worry about updating the site manually when I go for NS next week.

The trailers are 90% accurate, it still fetches the wrong trailer sometimes, but I will continue to tweak it till its perfect.

This is the most technically challenging website I’ve ever created.
